Deception at Sea: An Ian Mac Roy Adventure

Chapter One, in which Prince Ian, third son of King Cedric of Eirya and sixth in line for the throne, sets sail on the merchant ship Emerald Wind IES and immediately begins to suspect that Captain Graeme Mac Cade isn’t exactly what he seems.

Chapter Two, in which the merchant ship Emerald Wind IES sets sail out of Maghara Harbor, and Ian discovers an unexpected passenger aboard.

Chapter Three, in which the captain’s daughter has a mysterious message for Ian.

Chapter Four, in which Ian mans the jib for the first time, and a shipboard emergency triggers Ian to do something he might regret.

Chapter Five, in which Ian helps rescue the boy who jumped into the sea and discovers that he has ambiguous motives for being on board the Emerald Wind.

Chapter Six, in which Ian takes pity on Seamus and Piper–but not without a price from Seamus.

Chapter Seven, in which Ian shares a drink with his friend, Ambassador Xian, who suspects that the boy Seamus may not be completely honest with Ian.

Chapter Eight, in which a night of harmless fun threatens to turn deadly.

Chapter Sixteen, in which Connor and Ian discover trouble brewing on the kanisse’s island.

Chapter Seventeen, in which Ian begins to suspect that Connor is more than just a simple sword-for-hire.

Chapter Eighteen, in which Ian thinks about privilege, secrets, and the warrior life.

Chapter Nineteen, in which Connor takes Ian to the mainland and introduces him to a new freelance.

Chapter Twenty, in which Ian strikes a bargain with Melik and bids goodbye to Connor.

Chapter Twenty-One, in which Ian and Melik arrive in Barlena, and Ian glimpses a familiar face in the crowd.

Chapter Twenty-Two, in which Ian chases Seamus and discovers that the boy has been in contact with Xian–and lost something very important to them both.

Chapter Twenty-Three, in which Melik suggests they stay with a religious order, and Ian meets an enchanting young woman.

Chapter Twenty-Four, in which Ian learns more about the disarming Saya Ursula and makes a promise he’s not sure he can fulfill.

Chapter Twenty-Five, in which Saya Ursula shows Ian a quiet sayada passageway that leads to the emperor’s prison–and some unwelcome news.

Chapter Twenty-Six, in which Xian finally reveals his trials and Ian looks for a way to save his friend.

Chapter Thirty, in which Ian learns that Xian’s crimes involve more than just debt.

Chapter Thirty-One, in which Ian reveals his identity to Lord d’Tarjian.

Chapter Thirty-Two, in which Ian comes up with a lie that might save Xian.

Chapter Thirty-Three, in which Ian suggests the Esparan empire might pay a high price for executing Xian.

Chapter Thirty-Four, in which Ian says goodbye to Ursula and prepares to sail with a new captain.
